The Man In White (part 3)

January 18th, 2009 No comments

A fire lit room shadowed by the gathering dark serves itself up as the meeting point between two estranged lovers, known to their peers as the Lincolns.

A tall well-set-up man in his mid-forties, dressed in a white three-piece suit, turns from warming his hands held out before the walk-in fireplace to face his counterpart in black. Mrs. Lincoln, easily a decade younger, and dressed in a cocktail dress, sits back fearfully from the tortured countenance now facing her.

Mr. Lincoln aggregates the darkness about him, as leaning in, he reigns in the emotions that previously twisted him so, saying:

“You will have this child or so help me God I’ll see you fall far from the perch with which you sit.”

The hiss and crackle of the flames seem agitated by the pair before them, serving up a startling explosion of sparks from the popping wood, punctuating his statement and startling Mrs. Lincoln further.

Turning from the subsiding sparks, shivering from cold now inside her, she gazes out the handmade glass windows, searching for her freedom.

The Man In White (part 2)

A lone make-less, golden car careens wildly around a ninety degree angle section of paved roadway, in the process narrowly missing a lone animal slinking along the desolate roadside edge. A hubcap shakes loose and propels off the road into the encroaching, gnarled vine-snared treeline.

The driver laughs wildly, drumming his hands upon his steering wheel as the other passengers either join him in drunken laughter (mostly the other two male youths) or (girls of about the same age) scream from the near wipe-out.

Of a sudden though, their laughter cuts short as they screech to a dead halt, having finally arrived at their intended destination. The group of teenaged, drunken youths seem to visibly sober up as they peer through the cracked windshield and beyond through the wooded treeline to a long forgotten, brick house.

It’s windows long since boarded up, creeper vines criss-cross upwards and through anything in their path to the sky above. The shingled roof sags in sections, failing to uphold its end of the bargain to shelter any within. A heavy mist drapes itself around the abandoned house’s base as if to protect or hide something more ancient beneath its foundations.

There’s no mistaking this house, though once a fine mansion and estate, has palled to all but the bitterest outcast of souls. And perhaps those with the greatest sense of adventure and bravery, however briefly their spirits may be bolstered…

The pounding, incessant sound of the tribal drums nearly crushes any other sound but the rapid, crazed screams of a teenaged girl as she runs haphazardly through the haze of flashing white light.

Pursued by a gang of zombie-like men, the beating grinds louder as they corner her in the back of their caverouness lair, screeching like banshees, drooling like a pack of wild dogs. One of them, a tall but lanky red-head drops to his chest, crawling, pulling himself forward, hand by shimmering hand. The backs of which are painted in silvery-white paint, with ritualistic tribal markings in the shape of diamonds and veins.

He rears his head back, opening his mouth wide, grinning ferally. The girl screams even louder as his mouth, open then closed, chomps dangerously close to her ears.

Mini Saga Challenge Accepted

My friend Spaceman has started trying to write daily at his blog, not just blog writing, but mini stories. I’ve accepted his challenge and will try my hand at it.

I’ve always wanted to write. I read a lot. Like hundreds of pages a day, in mere hours.

So, I’ve always felt inspired and drawn to write. It was always my forte in school, aside from visual arts.

We’ll see how it goes. What do I have to lose, heh?

I’m Obsessed With House

December 8th, 2008 No comments

A few weeks ago Tristan and I discovered House; we’ve been hooked ever since.

It’s funny how a show can take hold of you sometimes, I haven’t been hooked like this since Heroes or Lost began. And in some ways, I’m enjoying House more than the others.

We’ve mostly been catching up with episodes on USA, most nights of the week, but I’m feeling the itch to take it further and watch it on demand through Fox’s website.

Think I’ll go fire an episode up right now…
