On Writing A Will…

October 22nd, 2008

So I’ve thought about writing my will several times over the last few years, but until now, never took it further then that.

After digging around on Neil Gaiman’s site earlier tonight (okay, just a few minutes ago), I found his post on how important he feel’s about those living without wills to do so now. And while I’m certainly not that easily impressionable by everything I read, felt this was appropriate advice, seeing as how I have my first child on the way. And while I certainly don’t have any notable literary works or anything else really amounting to a great publicly perceived value, feel it’s worth the time to knock out of the way now.

Here’s a short list of some of the things where I do perceive value:

  • 600+ domains
  • 1,500 comic books (including Spawn #1 signed by Todd McFarlane)
  • My art: portfolios, sketchbooks, photographs, etc.
  • My books (I have many)
  • My movies and music (of which I also have many)

I’d also list my companies there too but have got to touch base with my accountant and attorney to be sure on the particulars.

Anyway, I look forward to learning the process of will writing, if nothing more than for a little self-examination into where and on what I’m placing value at this point in my life.

The Newness Begins

June 5th, 2008

It’s been almost three weeks since the LIB build-out, two and a half weeks since I officially learned I’m gonna’ be a dad, a week and a day since I returned from LIB and, it’s a week into our move at Distinctivefabric.com.

Well, I think this last stretch has really taken the cake…as far as my regular scheduling antics are concerned, these few details have all been chock full, round-the-clock, full-on, life-changing things; things certainly do unfold in three’s.

The new fabric base of ops is coming along really nicely, so much so that I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see a renewed interest in it’s livelihood not unlike the early days, it’s really been fun. And when I haven’t been plowing through the tasks here at our new space (co-housed w/the rest of the Catalyst gang), I’ve been tackling the early steps of pregnancy with Tristan. It’s not been ’till just yesterday that I could start to take a few minutes and address some post-LIB tasks…looking forward to the post-wrap-party-thing coming up.

And now finally, I’m headed off tomorrow for my first on-site visit to the solar hosting provider I’m running my Green Gurus dedicated server out of. I’ll be headed down tomorrow mid-day with Ryan Wartena for a fun inspection of their ops and a little powwowing with the crew there at AISO, hoping to dive back into the solar hosting biz early next week and knock out some major issues before leaving early next month for Portugal, for another Do LaB job.

Realistically, these days will soon come to pass as memory at least a little while anyway with the pregnancy coming on strong and then delivery and child care.

Humph. Strange days indeed…curious to watch it all unfold.

p.s. oh yeah: was gonna’ try to ramp up some things with the Collective Council this month too…hmm, we’ll have to see about that.

Five and a Half Weeks of Fatherhood

May 29th, 2008

Yup. You read that right…Tristan and I are pregnant!

I found out for sure early last week at LIB, though I had a strong suspicion before that she was. Here’s what a fetus and most likely our child, looks like right about now…

Fetus at 5 weeks old

Our child is growing at least 4-5 major organs and/or other parts a day: today a heart, fingers and toes; tomorrow a nose, stomach and tonsils. And while not necessarily in that order, is illustrative of the fact that a fetus’ growth is simply a miracle of nature.

I’m really excited to see this process unfold and looking forward to the wealth this new life will bring to us and the world around it.
