Settling In

After nearly 7 years I’ve finally decided to pack up and move back to PA.

While back for a visit after working another Do LaB job back in August, Tristan and I decided to look around for a home here to have the baby. We found a killer house down the road from the old canoe company base (that we all affectionately refer to as the River), a roughly 250-yr old colonial (or is that pre-colonial?) farm house. We met the owner, slapped down a miniscule deposit and started working towards the big move in from Los Angeles.

After a week of packing and serious planning, we loaded up the 16′ Penske rental truck and car carrier, loaded up the two cats and bird and ourselves and trucked it cross-country style, arriving in just 4.5 days. We were met by my old boss, friend and mentor Tim Reeser, who helped us unload to get to our bed. Then the following morning we ran up the street to a homemade breakfast with he and his wife Eileen, and returned to finish the job.

Then a day or two later, Tristan’s mom Sue made the 5-6 hour trip out from Akron, Ohio to help us clean house and settle in; she stayed for about 5 days.

Now three-plus weeks later, we’re finally starting to find our rhythm here (thanks to a late Internet install from D&E Communications). We’re definitely struggling with some boredom and withdrawal from LA LA land, but I’m still hopeful it’s been for the best.

Time will tell on that one just as any other.

For now, I’m just trying to find some sort of secondary income and keep Tristan’s spirits up. I’m really excited for the holidays here though and have a feeling we’re in for a magical winter…
